IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR REUNION PARTICIPANTS
TRANSPORTATION: Many reunion participants will fly into the Atlanta Airport and will need to either rent a car or take a shuttle service to the hotel in Columbus, GA. Most of the car rental companies are represented at the airport. Shuttle service is also available. Groome Transportation contact is (706) 324-3939 / (800) 584-6735.
We have reserved buses for transport to and from Ft Benning and the National Infantry Museum for all of the events there. Activities at the NIM such as the HoF Induction and the Patterson Award Dinner do not require ID or visitor passes as the NIM is not on Post. We will be on Post for certain activities on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We will make sure that HoF Inductees will leave Post activities on Monday in time to get back to the hotel, freshen up and change clothes.
I encourage you to plan on this transportation mode for all activities whether on post or not, as the Post has tightened up their entrance requirements. If you have a military ID card, you will be able to go on post without difficulty with your personal vehicle, but if you do not, you will need to submit paperwork for a background check. The advance background check will allow you a pass that will cover the dates you need to participate in Post activities. If you do not obtain the background check and pass and want to go on Post with your own car, you will have to stop at the gate and obtain a visitor pass each time you want to go on Post. Since this day pass will take 15 to 20 minutes for each visit, you will need to plan accordingly. I do not recommend this last option as it is very time consuming. The buses are very expensive and we will pay for them whether you use them or not and in the end, they are the easiest option.
DRESS CODE: Many of you have asked about the Dress Code for the Reunion Activities, so I will try to give you good advice on the subject. Sunday, May 7, 2017 is a casual day. That means you can wear whatever is comfortable for you, including jeans, collared shirts, slacks, etc. When we go to Ft Benning, slacks and shirts are appropriate for the men and ladies are welcome to wear casual attire such as dresses or pantsuits. The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is a little more formal. A sport coat and slacks or suit would be appropriate for the men and business attire for ladies. The Patterson Award Dinner is a formal affair. Suits and ties, black tie and/or “Dress Blues” are invited for the gentlemen and cocktail or formal dress for the ladies. The Reunion Dinner on Wednesday night is “Business Casual.” This information is a “guide only” for your information.
